Belledune Port Authority (BPA) Releases Financial Results

Belledune, NB – Claude Doucet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Belledune Port Authority (BPA), released the 2009 Financial Results and Annual Report today at the BPA’s tenth Annual General Public Meeting at the Belledune Recreation and Cultural Centre.

“It is with great pride that I am able to report that the Port is celebrating another milestone, its 5th consecutive year of record profits. This strong performance in the face of global recession is a testament not only to the Port’s vibrant operations, efficient marshalling of resources and excellent service, but also to the vitality and appeal of the wider region.

It has only been through a collaborative effort that we have been able to achieve past successes and it is only through this creative collaboration that future successes shall be realized. To this end, I would like to thank the management, staff and the Board as well as our business partners for making this another ground-breaking year.

We are confident that through unrelenting hard work and determination, our facilities will continue to figure prominently in the economic future of the north shore and we look forward with enthusiasm to the challenges and opportunities that the 2010 is sure to bring.”

The BPA President & CEO, Rayburn Doucett stated that: “As we continued our efforts to retain and expand our business while seeking out new clients; our focus for improvements to the Port’s infrastructure were significant.  Infrastructure projects of $61.2 million dollars were announced through a partnership between the Belledune Port Authority and the Governments of Canada and New Brunswick.

This project is an excellent example of what can be accomplished with the municipality and the provincial and federal governments all working together to achieve a common goal of stimulating our economy and keeping people working during these tough economic times. “

Our net income reached an all-time high of $3,001,497 compared to $2,454,761 for 2008.  This increase in net income reflects the continued efforts of the Board of Directors, management and staff.
