Perplexity at the Port of Belledune

Perplexity at the Port of Belledune

Belledune NB -The Belledune Port Authority (BPA) eagerly awaits its First Ship of the Year each January. This year has been especially exciting with three vessels racing to the Port of Belledune terminals for the title of First Ship of the Year.

“The Port of Belledune is a year-round facility, so traffic doesn’t stop due to ice or winter weather conditions,” says Mr. Rayburn Doucett, President and CEO of the BPA. “It’s not unusual for us to have three ships in January. The fact that they are all scheduled to arrive so closely is what makes this event so unique. It’s a great problem to have and we are pleased to be able to accommodate all three vessels!”

The M.V. “Baldock”, registered in Marshall Island, Majuro, the M.V. “Greenwing”, registered in Limassol, Cyrpus, and the tug and barge “Point Vim” and “N.T. 1032”, both registered in Canada, were all quickly approaching the Port of Belledune between January 6th – January 8th; fortunately all three vessels were destined for three different terminals at the Port of Belledune, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 so there was no congestions issues once they all arrived in the harbour.

Ivan Zalaba, Andriy Sushkevych, and Bruce Davis, Captains of the ships listed above respectfully, were all invited to the Belledune Port Authority office to each be presented with a commemorative gift for this special occurrence with the first one to have a line a-shore receiving the coveted First Ship of the Year award Mr. Doucett added “We normally only invite the Captain of the first ship to the BPA office to be recognized, but in light of having three vessels so close together, we opted to celebrate each of them in this race to the finish line.”
